Becoming a doula wasn’t just a career choice for me — it was a response to my own experiences, my challenges, and my growth. My journey through pregnancy, NICU stays, postpartum depression, and navigating complex medical systems shaped not only who I am but also how I support families today. Every client I meet, every birth I attend, carries echoes of my own story. And that integration is intentional; it informs the way I hold space, provide guidance, and create an environment where you feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Why My Experience Matters
Having gone through a NICU journey with my daughter Meadow, who required a feeding tube, I understand what it’s like to feel scared, isolated, and unsure of how to care for your baby in unfamiliar circumstances. I remember the exhaustion of hospital stays, the constant worry about developmental milestones, and the deep longing for reassurance and connection. Experiencing postpartum depression and anxiety taught me how fragile and complex the postpartum period can be, and how crucial it is to have non-judgmental support.
These experiences aren’t just stories I carry — they’re lessons I apply in every session and every birth. I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by medical terminology, to fear asking “too many questions,” and to wonder if your instincts are valid. That empathy shapes how I guide families today.
How This Shapes My Doula Care
Deep empathy without judgment: I can sense when you’re struggling emotionally, even if you don’t voice it. I provide space to express those feelings, knowing firsthand how heavy they can feel.
Practical guidance from lived experience: I’ve navigated NICU routines, feeding challenges, and postpartum mental health care, so I can share strategies that actually work, grounded in reality rather than theory.
Advocacy rooted in understanding: I’ve been in moments where I didn’t feel heard by providers. That’s why I help you advocate for yourself and your baby, providing tools, language, and confidence to communicate your needs.
Normalization of complex emotions: Postpartum joy often exists alongside grief, anxiety, and guilt. I help families recognize that these feelings are real, valid, and worthy of care — not signs that something is “wrong.”
Celebration of milestones and growth: I know how meaningful small victories are. Every feed, every step forward, every moment of bonding matters, and I help families honor those moments.
What It Means for You as a Client
When you work with me, you aren’t just hiring a doula — you’re gaining someone who has walked through the raw, unfiltered realities of birth, postpartum, and early parenting. My personal journey allows me to:
Anticipate the challenges you might face and offer proactive support
Create an environment where you feel safe to share fears, doubts, and hopes
Provide guidance that balances medical information, lived experience, and your personal values
Walk alongside you in moments of uncertainty, knowing how transformative compassionate support can be
Integrating my story doesn’t mean I impose my experiences on you. It means I carry them as tools to better understand, empathize, and guide. Every birth and postpartum journey is unique, but having someone who truly understands both the joy and the struggle can make a profound difference.
At the heart of my work is connection — connecting you to your body, your baby, your support system, and yourself. My personal journey informs how I create that connection, so you feel heard, respected, and empowered every step of the way.
