🌸 Bloom Together: Create for Choice

A Women’s Rights Community Craft Night in Arvada
There are a lot of things I could say about why I created Bloom Together: Create for Choice.
I could talk about reproductive justice.
I could talk about bodily autonomy.
I could talk about the importance of having choices and being able to make decisions about our own bodies.
And I will talk about those things.
But honestly, at the heart of this event is something much simpler:
I believe people need community.
As a doula, I spend a lot of time thinking about what it means to support someone through some of the biggest moments of their life. Birth, postpartum, parenting, loss, unexpected circumstances, difficult decisions—all of these experiences can feel very different, but there is one thing that can make such a huge difference:
Not having to go through it alone.
That is something I want to bring into the work I do outside of birth, too.
That is where Bloom Together: Create for Choice came from.
🌸 An evening to create, connect, and just be together
On Friday, September 18th at 5:30 PM, we’ll be gathering at Marge Roberts Park in Arvada for a free community craft night held in honor of Self-Managed Abortion Week of Action.
But you don't have to come with years of reproductive justice experience.
You don't have to consider yourself an activist.
You don't have to be an artist.
You don't even have to know anyone else who is coming.
You can simply come as yourself.
Maybe you want to paint.
Maybe you want to meet people.
Maybe you want to eat some good food.
Maybe you want to sit outside, listen to music, and have a conversation with someone new.
Maybe you just need somewhere to go where you can be around other people who believe that bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom matter.
Whatever brings you there, you are welcome.
🎨 We're making art together
One of the things I love about art is that it doesn't have to be perfect.
There isn't one “right” way to paint a flower.
There isn't one correct way to create.
And there certainly isn't a requirement to have artistic talent.
We'll have a guided community painting activity, and all of the painting supplies will be provided.
You can pick up a brush, sit down, and just create.
I love the idea of a group of people who may have never met before sitting around the same table and making something together.
There is something really beautiful about that.
🍽️ And yes, there will be food!
We're also having a community potluck.
If you want to bring something to share, we'd love to have it. If you can't bring anything, please don't let that stop you from coming.
Seriously.
The potluck is optional.
Community shouldn't come with a price tag or a list of things you have to be able to contribute.
If you are bringing something, please sign up ahead of time so we have an idea of what everyone is bringing:
🌸 Families are welcome
I also wanted this to be something families could actually participate in.
Kids are welcome!
Marge Roberts Park has a playground, so little ones can have somewhere to play while families enjoy the event.
Parents and guardians will still need to supervise their children, but I wanted families to know that they don't have to find childcare just to participate in community.
Bring the kiddos.
Bring your partner.
Bring your friend.
Or come by yourself.
There is room for you.
💜 More than just a craft night
We'll have more than paint and food.
There will be:
🌸 Flowers and beautiful decorations
🎨 A guided painting activity
🍽️ A community potluck
🎶 Music
📚 Reproductive justice resources and educational materials
📸 A flower-filled photo backdrop
🎁 Gift bags for everyone who attends
🎁 Swag and giveaways
💬 Plenty of opportunities to talk, connect, and meet people
I've been putting a lot of love into the little details because I want this to feel like more than just another event you attend.
I want it to feel like community.
🌱 Why “Bloom Together”?
I chose the name Bloom Together because I think sometimes we forget that people don't bloom in isolation.
We need people.
We need support.
We need safe places to ask questions.
We need people who will sit beside us when life gets messy.
We need people who will celebrate with us when things are beautiful.
And we need community that understands that caring about one another doesn't mean we all have to have the same story.
We can come from different backgrounds.
We can have different experiences.
We can be at completely different places in our lives.
And we can still gather together and recognize that everyone deserves autonomy, dignity, and the ability to make decisions about their own body and life.
That matters to me.
🌸 So, come bloom with us.

Put it on your story.
You never know who needs an invitation.
You never know who has been feeling isolated and just needs somewhere to show up.
You never know who might walk into the park not knowing anyone and leave with a new friend.
That's the kind of community I'm hoping we can create.
Not perfect.
Not complicated.
Just people showing up for one another.
Let's paint something beautiful. Let's share a meal. Let's make some memories. Let's talk, laugh, create, and connect.
And most importantly—
let's bloom together. 🌸💜
