Belly casting is such a beautiful way to capture the magic of pregnancy—a tangible reminder of your body, your strength, and the life growing inside you. While many clients book belly casts alongside doula services, it’s also a completely standalone experience. You don’t need a full doula package to have a meaningful, professional belly cast created.
What a Belly Cast Is
A belly cast is a plaster mold of your pregnant belly (and often your chest and hips if desired) that captures the shape, curves, and form of your body in late pregnancy. Once dry, it can be decorated, painted, or displayed as a keepsake.
It’s a way to honor your pregnancy, celebrate your body, and create a memory that lasts far beyond the fleeting months of pregnancy.
How It Works
Scheduling: You choose a time when your belly is full and round—usually in the third trimester. Most clients schedule around 34–38 weeks.
Prep: Wear comfortable clothing and a tank top or bra that you don’t mind covering. Skin is prepped to protect it and help the plaster adhere safely.
Casting: Using skin-safe plaster strips, I carefully apply layers to your belly and surrounding areas as requested. This is hands-on but gentle, and I guide the process the entire time.
Drying: The cast needs time to harden. You’ll leave with it still soft, and I handle the final drying at home or in the studio, depending on the method.
Finishing Touches: Once dry, it can be smoothed, painted, or left natural—whatever reflects your vision for your keepsake.
Why Belly Casting Alone Is Worth It
Accessible: You don’t need to hire a doula to create a professional, safe, and beautiful belly cast.
Customizable: You can choose your pose, which parts of the torso to cast, and how you want it finished.
Empowering: Belly casting can be a meditative, reflective experience—allowing you to connect with your body and your baby in a unique way.
Keepsake: It’s a piece of art, a personal memory, and a visual celebration of pregnancy you can treasure forever.
Tips for a Great Belly Casting Experience
Schedule at a time when you feel comfortable standing or sitting for 30–60 minutes.
Bring your favorite music, a partner, or a friend for support.
Wear a supportive top that’s easy to work around.
Relax and breathe—the process is gentle, and your comfort is the priority.
Think about how you’d like to display or decorate the cast—it can guide the final form.
Who Can Book a Belly Cast
Anyone with a growing belly can book a cast, whether this is your first pregnancy or your fourth. You don’t need doula services, labor support, or additional packages—just a desire to preserve the shape of your amazing body during pregnancy.
The Takeaway
Belly casting is more than a keepsake—it’s a celebration of your body, your pregnancy, and your journey. Doing a cast on its own allows anyone to experience the magic, without committing to other services. It’s personal, memorable, and completely yours.
Whether it’s for yourself, a gift to your baby, or a creative piece to display, belly casting is a unique way to honor this transformative chapter of your life.
